The Canon Pixma IP4700 is Canon's latest inkjet printer which keeps the polished black casing akin to its forerunner, the Canon Pixma IP4600, and likewise includes stylish gunmetal highlights.

The IP4700 also retains some of the features we adored most about the IP4600, including two paper trays, the simple fact users are informed on their Personal computer display if the print output tray is closed and also being able to print on to DVDs and CDs while using the incorporated dedicated tray.

The device in addition provides a number of improvements over the IP4600. Such as the inclusion of Auto Photo Fix II to the bundled Easy-PhotoPrint EX software. One of the key features of this software is that it may be arranged to by design fix colour, contrast along with brightness while not leaving the resulting prints either too dark or too light - a thing that's particularly tricky to fine-tune with under-exposed pictures. The Canon Pixma IP4700 also offers a built-in duplexing function.

We found the IP4700 really simple to get up and running. After we'd inserted the five single inks (cyan, yellow, magenta and two blacks), in the exact same way just like the IP4600, we were able to put in the incorporated software and subsequently link the printer to a Computer utilizing USB. Next the software took us step-by-step through aligning the printheads before we were allowed to begin printing.

As well as USB connectivity, the IP4700 provides PictBridge connectivity that enables you to print pictures direct from a digital camera without first having to download them to a Personal computer.

Canon states the IP4700's biggest enhancement is that it is quicker compared to its precursor and will print 9.2 photos per minute in black and around 8.1ppm in colour. In our testing, the Canon Pixma IP4700 printed a combined colour and graphics document in 21 seconds, whilst our nine-page text document required 51 seconds, equating to an end result rate of 10.5ppm.

In Draft mode black text seemed crystal clear and razor-sharp and images displayed crystal clear detailing. Colours seemed slightly soft in draft mode but appeared vivid and bright in Normal and Best modes. Photos appeared crystal clear and razor-sharp with excellent detailing and skin tones depicted realistically.

The Canon Pixma IP4700 truly satisfied us. It is a good quality inkjet printer which usually produces superb results using the five Canon Pixma IP4700 printer ink cartridges inside a small amount of time. We definitely loved the fact that it was remarkably quiet. If excellent prints tend to be what you want and you aren't in the market for either copying or scanning features, this is the ideally suited printer.
